About Artisan Gates & Fencing
We’re Andy and Jude White, owners of Artisan Gates & Fencing – a family owned business based in Mount Maunganui.
We purchased the business in 2017, when it was known as Affordable Gates, Fences & Balustrades Ltd. In 2026 we changed the name to Artisan Gates & Fencing to better reflect what the business had become, while retaining the familiar AGF name our customers already knew.
Experience behind the craft
Andy began his career as a coach builder and fabricator in the 1980s, working on everything from caravans to fire engines and ambulances. He later project-managed the manufacturing of New Zealand’s first mobile surgical unit.
After spending the following 15 years in the hydraulic hose industry, the opportunity arose for us to take on a gate and fencing business.
With Andy’s background in fabrication and his interest in architecture and design, it was a natural fit.
Since then, we’ve continued to develop AGF around something we both value: good design combined with quality workmanship
Made here in Mount Maunganui
Every AGF gate and fence is custom-manufactured in our Mount Maunganui workshop.
We don’t simply order a standard-sized gate and install it. Each project is considered individually and manufactured to suit the property, dimensions and requirements of our client.
That allows us to adapt our designs for sloping driveways, unusual openings, privacy requirements, children and pets, coastal environments and the many other practical considerations that come with individual properties.
It’s also what makes the work interesting.
There is real satisfaction in taking a project from an initial idea through fabrication and installation to something that looks a though it belongs with the home.
Why aluminium?
We work predominantly with aluminium because it gives us the flexibility to create a wide variety of designs while remaining lightweight, strong and particularly well suited to our coastal environment.
Combined with professional powder coating, aluminium allows us to produce gates and fencing designed for long-term use without the movement and instability associated with timber.
A family business
We’re a small family business and remain personally involved in our projects.
From your first enquiry and initial estimate through to fabrication and installation, you’ll be dealing with the people responsible for the finished result.
For us, Artisan isn’t about mass production. It’s about making something specifically for the property in front of us – and making it well.
