FAQs
EXPLORE our frequently asked questionsQ: What material do you use?
A: We specialise in aluminium gates and fencing.
Aluminium is strong, lightweight and corrosion resistant, making it particularly well suited to Tauranga’s coastal environment. Unlike untreated or exposed steel, aluminium does not rust.
Our aluminium products are professionally powder coated to provide a durable, attractive finish.
Q: Do you make timber gates or fencing?
A: We don’t manufacture gates solely from timber due to the movement and instability that can occur with timber over time.
If you want the appearance of timber, we can manufacture a structural aluminium gate frame which can then be clad in timber.
This provides the strength and stability of an aluminium gate while allowing you to achieve the timber appearance you’re looking for.
Q: Can you customise one of your existing designs?
A: Absolutely.
Our styles are a starting point rather than fixed products. Because we manufacture each project individually, we can alter dimensions, profile sizes, slat spacing, orientation and other details to suit your property.
If you have something particular in mind, send us your ideas or inspiration photographs and we’ll discuss what is practical to manufacture.
Q: Can you match my gate to my house, joinery or garage door?
A: We use the Dulux Powder Coatings colour range, which gives us an extensive selection of colours and finishes to complement existing fencing, joinery, garage doors and exterior colours..
Our standard finish is Duralloy Plus. Premium Duratec, Kinetic and Electro ranges are also available where enhanced performance or a particular finish is required.
Premium powder-coat ranges are approximately 15% more expensive than Duralloy Plus.
Please bear in mind that different materials, finishes and ages can result in slight variations even when the same colour name is specified.
Q: Which powder-coat range should I choose?
A: This depends on your property’s location, exposure and the finish you’re looking for.
Duralloy Plus is our standard powder-coat range and provides excellent durability for many residential applications.
For more demanding environments or where enhanced durability is required, we can also quote Duratec and other premium Dulux ranges.
We’ll discuss the appropriate finish with you when quoting your project.
Q: What gate hardware do you use?
A: Hardware is selected according to the gate design and how it will be used.
Depending on the project, we use a range of quality hardware including locally manufactured cast aluminium hinges and gudgeons, D&D Technologies hinges and latches, Borg locks and Locinox hardware.
We’ll recommend hardware appropriate to your gate and access requirements.
Q: Can my gate be automated?
A:Many of our sliding, single swing and double swing gates can be automated.
We are Tauranga agents for Merlin Gate Automation and can incorporate automation into a new gate project or assess some existing gates for automation.
Systems can include remotes, photocells, keypads, exit probes and MyQ smartphone control depending on the installation.
Q: Do you offer solar gate automation?
A: Yes
Solar automation can be an excellent solution for rural properties, orchards and lifestyle blocks where getting mains power to the gateway would be difficult or expensive.
We’ll assess the site and recommend whether solar is appropriate for your entrance.
Q: Why do you require a 50% deposit?
A: A 50% deposit confirms acceptance of your quote and secures your place in our manufacturing schedule.
Because every AGF gate and fence is custom-made specifically for your property, fabrications begins once the deposit has been received.
The remaining balance is payable on completion of installation./p>
Q: How long does manufacture and installation take?
A: Our usual lead time is approximately 4-5 weeks from receipt of your deposit through to installation.
Lead times can vary depending on our current manufacturing schedule, powder-coating availability and the complexity of the project.
During the busy period leading into Christmas, lead times can increase significantly, so we recommend planning ahead for projects required before the summer holidays.
Q: Can you repair an existing gate?
A:We can assess repairs to aluminium gates.
We’ll normally provide an estimate first, as the extend and cost of the repair can sometimes mean replacement is the more economical option.
Q: Why might you recommend new aluminium posts when I already have timber posts?
A: The performance of a gate depends heavily on what supports it.
Existing timber posts or fencing can move, twist or lean over time, which can affect gate alignment and prevent the gate from closing correctly.
Where appropriate, we’ll recommend independent aluminium posts concreted into the ground or fixed to suitable concrete. This gives the gate a stable structure rather than relying on existing fencing.
Q: What happens if my existing fence moves after my new gate is installed?
A: Existing fencing that we haven’t installed isn’t covered by our gate installation.
If an existing fence or post subsequently moves or leans against the gate, this can affect its alignment and operation.
We may be able to rectify the issue, but additional labour or materials may be chargeable.
Q: Do you freight gates and fencing outside Tauranga?
A: We don’t generally freight finished gates and fencing because the size, packaging requirements and freight costs make this impractical.
For some projects within the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Coromandel areas, we may be able to provide a supply-only option for collection from our Mount Maunganui workshop.
Contact us with your location and project details and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
Tell us about your project
To prepare an initial estimate, please provide your approximate dimensions and a much information about the project as you can.
Photos are particularly helpful.
A wide photograph showing the entire entrance or area gives us valuable information about your property, ground levels and the available space.
